Ground Transport Policies 

• SECT Exotics prefers all of our buyers to pick up their pets from us in person or do ground transportation through SECT. However, if the buyer wishes to choose an outside company for transport, it is at the buyer's own risk.

• It is the buyer’s responsibility for organizing transport directly with the transport company of their choice, pay them directly, and to coordinate with SECT Exotics to ensure availability prior to booking transport, or making any non-refundable payments.

• The animal fee and any convenience fees owed to SECT Exotics need to be paid in full 48 hours prior to the animal being transported. Estimated times and dates given to you by your transport company ARE NOT A GUARANTEE.

• Transport length outside of New England can take anywhere from 2-14+ days with multiple stops. It is the buyer's responsibility to be available for the estimated drop off time, or to find someone to be available to collect their animal.

• The buyer understands that delivery times may be inconvenient.

• The buyer understands that the time and date of delivery can - and probably will change, even at the last minute.

• The buyer is responsible to meet the transporter regardless of any changes. Failure to comply with these terms will result in the transporter leaving with the animal. The buyer may choose to cancel or have the animal redelivered at the buyer's ADDITIONAL expense. Cancellation will result in NO refunds. 

• Once your animal has been picked up by the transporter, SECT Hedgehogs is no longer responsible in the event of any damages, illness, injuries, or death that could occur during transport.

• Transport can be stressful for animals and SECT Exotics has no control over what happens to the animal during transport.

• Once the animal has left our care, SECT Exotics makes no guarantees of the animal's condition when it arrives, and our typical health guarantee is not offered to customers choosing transport by any company other than SECT Exotics.

• Buyers agree to general policies of SECT Exotics. Click here to review them.

SECT trusts the recommended transporters to do everything in their power to bring your baby safely to you. 

Tipping your ground transporter is customary and appreciated.

 

Transport by SECT Exotics Within New England & NY

Animals and supplies purchased from SECT can be delivered with this option. SECT will meet the buyer at a public location in their hometown or closest large city off of a major highway; location and date will be determined at the time of booking. Time of delivery will be determined by SECT 24-48 hours prior to the delivery date. Estimated timeframe may be available sooner. Booking is done by email. Up to 75 miles one way from Lyme, Connecticut : $99

76-100 miles one way from Lyme, Connecticut : $125

101-125 miles one way from Lyme, Connecticut : $150

126-150 miles one way from Lyme, Connecticut : $175

Any request further than 150 miles one way is considered on a case by case basis, and may be declined depending upon availability/location; the price for longer trips typically increases more than the above of $25 per portion of 25 miles. We do not deliver to NYC or Long Island. The closest is the New Rochelle, NY train station.​

For Transportation Outside of New England/NY

Location Transport

SECT will meet the outside company transporter that the buyer hires at a set location - $50 fee to SECT. This is limited to locations within 30 minutes drive of Lyme, Connecticut without additional fees. Additional fees would be as seen above. The $50 fee due to SECT is for food, blanket (hedgehogs) or zippered pouch (sugar glider), and heat packs (hedgehog). The fee does not include a travel container if required by the transporter, nor does it include any fee for transportation that is due to the transport company.​ Fees charged to the buyer from the transporter are paid directly by the buyer. All arrangements need to be made by the buyer. SECT can make recommendations on transport companies, but we do not make arrangements for buyers. 

This option requires the buyer to meet the transporter at a set location and time. The transporters determine the spot, date and time; times and dates are subject to change, and the buyer, or a responsible party, is required to be there ON TIME regardless of changes. Transporters will only wait a certain amount of time before leaving with the animal.

 

Door Delivery

An outside company transporter that the buyer hires will pick up directly from SECT and drop off directly to the buyer’s home. -$50* fee to SECT. The $50 fee due to SECT is for food, blanket (hedgehogs) or zippered pouch (sugar glider), and heat packs (hedgehog). The fee does not include a travel container if required by the transporter, nor does it include any fee for transportation that is due to the transport company.​ Fees charged to the buyer from the transporter are paid directly by the buyer. All arrangements need to be made by the buyer. SECT can make recommendations on transport companies, but we do not make arrangements for buyers. 

The transporters determine the date and time of delivery, which is subject to change, and the buyer, or a responsible party, is required to be there ON TIME regardless of changes. Transporters will only wait a certain amount of time and will not leave an animal unattended.
