AFRICAN PYGMY hedgehog cages

The Basics:

Single Level Cage - hedgehogs do not see well so they do not do well with cages that have multiple levels or ramps.
Minimum Size: 3 square feet - hedgehogs love to run and explore. There should be enough room for at least a 12” solid plastic wheel, house, and eating area.
Solid Bottom - hedgehog’s feet cannot tolerate a wire bottom cage.

Other Considerations:

Ventilation – a wire sided cage or open top plastic bin will allow for enough ventilation.
Ability to Let in Light – hedgehogs need 12 hours of daytime light and 12 hours of darkness. This is also something to consider when deciding where you will keep the cage.
Ease of Cleaning & Disinfecting - no one wants the chore of cleaning when it is difficult to do!
Heating – you want to make sure that you can easily add a heat source so that your hedgehog’s cage stays 75-80 degrees.
Location - keeping the cage in a busy area of the house allows the hedgehog to become accustomed to the family and regular noises. They make very little mess outside of the cages. The cage should always be kept indoors.

C&C cage. These are custom made by owners using cube storage, typically found at department stores and coroplast, typically found online or at a local print shop.
